It seems like a very short time after our babies are born that they start to become more independent. Sitting upright for seeing, eating, and playing is a great way to free our hands, and keep baby happy. Finding a great seat for your little one is an important task. Here are the set-ups, pros, and cons for four of the most popular models on the market today.
Ingenuity Baby Base 2-in-1 Seat Review
The Ingenuity Baby Base 2-in-1 Seat is a floor seat, baby chair, and booster seat combo. The hard plastic base comes with a dense foam insert that supports smaller sitters, and can be removed for larger children to use as a booster seat. The base can be used on the floor for play-time, or strapped securely to a chair as children progress to table-time. A built-in, dishwasher safe tray is included and conveniently stores under the front of the booster seat.
Pros
The Ingenuity Baby Base is slightly cheaper than other comparable seats. It has wider leg slots for chubby thighs and a higher back for added support, is dishwasher safe, and can be quickly wiped-down after messy eaters. This seat is multi-functioning and can easily grow with your child to make it well worth its cost, with the added benefit of doing the job of several pieces of equipment in one compact seat.
Cons
The attachable tray can sometimes be tricky to get in and out of the storage slot on the base. Thereâs also no storage place for the foam insert â meaning a piece of the seat will need to find a home when not in use as the child grows.
Bumbo Multi-Seat Review
A newer version of the popular Bumbo Floor Seat, the Bumbo Multi-Seat is set up similarly to the Ingenuity seat. It accommodates children up to three years old with larger leg holes, a hard plastic booster, a soft foam insert for smaller babies, and a removable tray.
Pros
The Bumbo Multi-Seat is multi-functional and can take the place of several other pieces of equipment. The removable tray clips to the back of the seat for storage, the seat is easy to wipe-down for cleaning, and the foam insert conveniently stores inside the seat when not in use. Optional suction play trays with toys are available for purchase to use with this seat.
Cons
The removable tray is not dishwasher safe, and can also be somewhat easily knocked off the back of the seat. The tray is also small, and does not have much in the way of ridges along the side to hold on toys or food. The Bumbo Multi-Seat isnât as portable as some baby seats for travel or use at restaurants, and is slightly higher priced than the Ingenuity model.

Boppy Baby Chair Review
The Boppy Baby Chair is made by the maker of the famous Boppy nursing pillow. This model of floor chair is also a booster, high chair, and floor chair, but is made of a softer material, covered in a wipable fabric, and includes a removable bolster and an attachable tray.
Pros
The Boppy Baby Chair is multi-use, light, and portable. The seat folds down and includes a handle for easy carrying. The tray is dishwasher safe and the seat can be used by babies as small as three months.
Cons
The Boppy seat is more expensive, and only for children ages 3-12 months, which makes it less versatile than other models. The seat is also made of plastic-like fabric, which while washable, is more difficult to clean of the big messes made by new eaters. There is also no attached storage for the removable tray.
Fisher-Price Sit Me Up Review
The Fisher-Price Sit Me Up chair comes in less than $40 depending on the model, and some include trays (dishwasher safe) while others include toys. This collapsible seat is made of hard plastic with cloth supports and helps small babies sit up.
Pros
This seat can be used for small babies who like to sit up, and helps to keep them entertained. The back comes up higher than other baby chairs, the seat is light and portable, collapsible for storage, and wonât break the bank.
Cons
The Sit Me Up chair has a 25 pound weight limit, can be a little difficult to get babies in and out of, and isnât multi-functional in the way the Ingenuity and Bumbo seats are. However, if your small baby simply loves to sit up and play, this seat may be perfect for you.
Whatever seat you choose, your baby will be exited at new independence and your free hands will thank you! Learn more about the Ingenuity Baby Base 2-in-1 chair here:
